Rainouts & closures
The City of Kelowna may close fields/courts due to bad weather or poor conditions. If there is a closure, participants will be notified of the closure by the City of Kelowna after 3 p.m.
Do not assume a field/court is closed or a game is cancelled due to rain. If a field/court has not been closed by the City of Kelowna, both teams must show up for their game. Failure to do so will result in a forfeited game. Teams can decide at game time, in person, if they wish to re-schedule a game due to rain. Please let a 10-minute delay expire to see if the rain lets up.
If it is decided that the game is cancelled, it is then up to the HOME TEAM to contact the other team to find a suitable day and time for the rainout game to be played, and then contact the League Coordinator to be assigned a field/court. Re-scheduled games may need to be played on a different day of the week and do not have to be played on your league night. Games not completed at the end of the season will not be recorded.
Air quality, extreme heat & lightning
If either team feels it is unsafe to play due to poor air quality, extreme heat, heavy rain, or lightning, Kelowna Sports will make every effort to accommodate a game re-schedule.
AIR QUALITY
If the Air Quality Health Index for Central Okanagan is between 8 – 10/10+ two hours before a scheduled game start time, teams are advised not to play and to re-schedule the game. Individuals with respiratory illnesses or conditions should manage their symptoms accordingly. For AQHI risk category and recommended activities chart, visit kelowna.ca/airquality
HUMIDEX
If the Humidex value for the Central Okanagan is, or is projected to be, between 37°C and 40°C+ at the scheduled game start time, as determined two hours before play on league night, teams are advised not to play and to re-schedule their game. Strenuous activity should be reduced. Drink plenty of water and other fluids, stay cool, and remain in the shade whenever possible.
LIGHTNING
If thunder can be heard less than 30 seconds after visible lightning, the game is paused for 30 minutes after the last visible lightning strike. If the game has less than 30 minutes left, the game is cancelled.
Please note: re-scheduled games may take place on a different day than your current league play and may not be available during a preferred date or time. Team captains can find more information on how to re-schedule a make-up game under Forfeits & Make-up Games.
