Object of the Game

The object of the game is to score more runs than the opponent during a regulation game.

Equipment

  • The City shall provide home plate, bases and pitching rubber at all fields.
  • Fields will be assigned based on availability.
  • Lights are set and managed by the City.
  • Chalking/raking of fields will be done by the City (as the conditions and maintenance schedule allows).
  • Strike mats are provided by the City at the Mission Softball Complex.
  • Strike mats are to be provided by the Home team at the East Kelowna softball fields.
  • Teams are to provide their own approved bats. All legal bats used in City leagues will have the USSSA compliance mark located on the bat.
  • Balls (Worth – Hot Dot 12″ – Yellow balls) are to be provided by the Home team for the game (this includes replacing lost balls due to home runs by both teams).
  • Teams are required have scorekeeping sheets for each game.
  • Players are to provide their own personal softball equipment (gloves, shoes/cleats, jersey, bats, etc.).
  • Cleats are to have rubber spikes; no metal spikes allowed.
  • Gloves can be ‘trapper’ style.
  • Helmets are recommended but are not required.
  • Face masks for pitchers are recommended but are not required.
  • First aid kits are recommended to be included in each team’s equipment bag.  
  • Jerseys are not required to participate in City leagues.

Players

  • Co-ed teams made up of 10 players.
  • 6:4 gender ratio (as self-identified).
  • Team can play with 9 players (while taking an Automatic Out for the missing players) as long as they meet the minimum gender ratio of 5:4.

Rules of Play

  • City Slo-Pitch League Rules are used.
  • Game length – 7 innings; Games can end in a tie. 
  • Run limit – 6 per inning; 7th inning is open.
  • Mercy rule – a team is up 12+ runs following 5 completed innings.
  • Home run rule: Each division is allowed a specific number of over the fence home runs. After the max is reached, an over the fence home run will be scored as an Out.
  • ‘C’ Competitive – 3 home runs; ‘D’ Intermediate – 2 home runs; E’ Beginner – 1 home run
  • Legal pitch – must arc between 6 and 12 feet.
  • Strike – occurs when the ball hits home plate and/or the mat.
  • Fielders are free to stand anywhere.
  • Number of batters – 10 players (6:4); teams can bat more that 10 batters, however, for each male you add you must add a female (7:5; 8:6).
  • Batting order – there is no restriction to the number of batters of the same gender that can bat in a row.
  • Walking in runs – is allowed.
  • Walking a male – if there is a female following in the batting order, the batter automatically advance to 2nd base.
  • Courtesy Runners – can be used; Male must be placed for a male, a female for a female, or a female for a male.

Rosters

  • Your TeamLinkt roster is your official roster for City league play.
  • Ensure all of your players have been added to your team.
  • All players must complete an activity waiver to be on the TeamLinkt roster. Players will be ineligible for league play if the waiver is not complete.
  • All players must be at least 18 years old.
  • 40 players are eligible to be on the roster.

Playoffs

  • All teams qualify for playoffs (as long as their TeamLinkt roster has been complete with the minimum player requirements of 10).
  • Playoffs occur on your night of play over the last two weeks of the season.
  • The playoff format groups teams with similar league records from the same night together into divisions.
  • Playoffs are single knockout.
  • Teams forfeiting 2 or more league games are eliminated from playoffs.

Reporting Results

  • The WINNING team captain is responsible for reporting the match result through the TeamLinkt app within 24 hours of the game completion.
  • Team captains must make sure they Submit to League to have the result count towards the standings.
  • Results not properly submitted will not count towards team’s final standings and may affect their playoff seeding.
  • The scheduled game time (1hr 45 min) must have passed in order to submit the score.   
  • If the game was won by forfeit/default; please select that the game was won with the Slo-pitch Default Score of 15 – 0.
  • Please email sportsleagues@kelowna.ca to notify the league coordinator of the default/forfeit for tracking purposes. 
  • The losing team captain may submit the score after the 24 hour window has passed.

      Point System

      • Win = 4 pts 
      • Loss = 0 pts 
      • Tie = 2 pts 
      • Overtime Loss = 0 pts
