Indoor Volleyball – Frequently Asked Questions

What equipment does our team need to bring to play beach volleyball?

Balls are to be provided by teams. Poles, nets, safety pads are provided by the City of Kelowna.

Are jump serves allowed in City of Kelowna leagues?

Jump serves are allowed in Competitive leagues.

Jump serves are not allowed in Recreational leagues.

What happens when the ball hits an object in the gymnasium (ie. basketball hoop, curtain, etc.)?

Reserve/replay the point. The ceiling does not count as an object.

What is the net height?

Cross Court Leagues leagues are set to Junior Boys (2.35 meters).

Full Court Leagues are set to Senior Boys (2.43 meters).

How many players do we need to play?

Minimum five players on the court at all times of which at least two must be of the same gender.

The match is forfeited if a team does not have the minimum player requirement by 10 minutes past the scheduled start time.

Can we pick up other players if we are short?

A team may pick up one player only from another team in the league to reach the minimum number of players required (five players of which at least two must be of the same gender).

The team must continue to play with five players throughout the match. If the team’s regular rostered player shows up then that player must take the place of the substitute player and the team must continue with the required minimum five players.

This is for league play only. No pick-up players for playoffs are allowed.
